3-legged dog inspires at disc competition

Posted: Updated:

THORNTON, CO (KUSA) -- Dogs from across the country participated in a qualifying event for a national Frisbee dog competition, Saturday morning in Thornton, Colorado.

Many of the dogs and their handlers are national champions vying for another title.

Simply put, they are the best Frisbee catchers on four legs.

One competitor though, doesn't fit into that category - not because of lack of ability, but because she only has three.

Macie's handler, Tammy Ormiston says her dog never touched a Frisbee until after an accident caused her to lose her right front leg.

"It was heartbreaking for me. She was my perfect dog," Ormiston said. "And I thought 'oh my gosh, she's not going to be perfect anymore.' It just broke my heart from beginning to end. Then we took her leg off and I realized she's still my perfect dog. She's perfect just the way she is. She has no quit in her."
