Chattanooga cyclists to participate in Ride of Silence

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB ) – In Chattanooga, cyclists will participate in the Ride of Silence, Wednesday evening.

On this night in cities around the world, cyclists will gather to ride in silence to raise awareness of cyclists' right to ride on the road and to honor the fallen cyclists no longer with us; a rally that advocates for the living friends and family of victims, as well as a celebration of those who incorporate the bicycle into their lifestyle. We ride slowly and silently in hope to end the tragedy on our roads.

Join fellow Chattanooga area cyclists at the north lot at Finley Stadium to show your support.

The ride will leave at 7:00p.m. and will wind through the streets of Chattanooga for 13-14 miles. The pace will be very slow. Every skill level is welcome.

Helmets are necessary and red tail lights are suggested for this ride.

The Ride of Silence began in 2003 at White Rock Lake in Dallas.  The mission of the world wide Ride of Silence is to honor bicyclists killed by motorists, promote sharing the road, and provide awareness of bicycling safety.

The first Ride of Silence drew 1,000 cyclists through word of mouth and email communication over a period of only ten days. There was no registration and no fees. Local media reported the ride to be incredibly moving as these cyclists rode in silence, occasionally wiping away a tear or patting a friend on the back.
