Sunny and even warmer today!

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA -

(WRCB) - Good Wednesday.  Weekend rain?  That is the big change you'll notice in our forecast.

Let's start with today.  Expect lots of sunshine and warm weather once again, with temps climbing on the back of light southwest winds to the mid-to-upper 80s.  I would not be surprised if a few folks hit 90 this afternoon.

Thursday is when we will start to notice some changes.  An upper low is going to move by to our north, but when you combine the instability and lift from that low with temps in the 80s and moisture coming in with the southwest winds we will see clouds increasing in the afternoon with isolated showers and storms popping up through the early evening.

This will be the basic pattern on Friday as well as highs reach the mid 80s.  I will still call the showers and storms isolated for the afternoon/evening, but they may be a bit more widespread as the low tracks east.

Okay...the weekend.

Some of the models are showing the front that was expected to stay to our north will now sag southward Saturday and Sunday.  Along that boundary we will see scattered showers and thunderstorms (nothing severe) primarily Saturday afternoon into Sunday.  Highs will still manage to make it into the 80s both days of the weekend.

I am not extremely confident in the weekend forecast right now as whenever there is a dramatic shift like this, it has a tendency to change a little more before all the models settle in on an agreed outlook.  We will certainly refine it over the next day or two.  Stay tuned!

Hold on. The heat and humidity are going to continue through the weekend. Today, look for a high of 95 and a heat index near 100. We won't see the same coverage of storms that we saw last night, but with this much heat and humidity in place you never want to completely rule out one or two storms breaking through.More
