(WRCB) -- Automotive website Autoweek reports that Volkswagen re-enforced its plans to make a new, second SUV model at the recent Shanghai motor show.

Autoweek says they've learned that VW plans to build the CrossBlue Coupe cross-over SUV here in Chattanooga in 2015.

The vehicle's design is based upon the CrossBlue SUV vehicle that was previewed at the Detroit auto show in January, and is more coupe-like, sporting five seats.

The vehicle sports a more muscular exterior, with top speeds of 147 m.p.h. A sleeker roofline, combined with a new grille and headlamp appearance introduce a new look for the German automaker.

Volkswagen suggests the production SUV will have two engine choices; a four- and six-cylinder gasoline or diesel and a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

An expected mileage of 34 mpg with the gasoline engine, and a 21-mile all-electric range when combined should give the CrossBlue Coupe a total range of up to 740 miles using electricity and gasoline power.

The production versions of the CrossBlue and CrossBlue coupe vehicles will replace the existing Tiguan and Touareg SUV models in Volkswagen's current vehicle lineup.

Autoweek continues, saying that Volkswagen plans to produce the new SUV alongside the current Passat in Chattanooga, they also hint the CrossBlue and CrossBlue coupe may also be manufactured on production lines in Shanghai, China.
