City celebrates Walnut Bridge with parade

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- Walkers and cyclists celebrated the 20th anniversary of the re-opening of the Walnut Pedestrian Bridge with a parade Sunday.

Hundreds of people lined up in the North Shore and walked across the bridge.

People of all ages, and even their furry friends, came out to show their appreciation for what many say is a symbol of the scenic city.

"There's so much activity there on it, almost 24 hours a day. But I think beyond that, it's sort of a representation of a connection between the two sides of the river, and just our entire community. I think it's truly become an icon for Chattanooga."

Several music groups serenaded the parade, including a performance from the Howard School marching band.
