Running of Chihuahuas goes on despite rain

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- The rain didn't stop the sixth annual "Running of the Chihuahuas."

The event, sponsored by WDOD-FM radio station Hits 96, kicked off Saturday at the Tennessee Pavilion.

It was a big hit with many pet lovers. They had the opportunity to purchase homemade treats and clothes made by talented locals.

They also crowned the fasted Chihuahuas. Animal owners came out for many reasons: some wanted to listen to the free concert and others were convinced their pet would win first place.

"We had to bring her out.  She was born without a tail not sure it that is going to be an advantage or not.  She is a winner," says one pet parent.

While only one dog could take home top prize, participants say all the dogs were winners today.
