CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Gary Rundles feels right at home in Chattanooga, and apparently that's rubbing off on his team.
The Chattanooga native and veteran head coach helped sixth-seeded West Alabama make it a perfect 2-0 so far in the Scenic City with a 4-3 win over No. 7 West Georgia in the Gulf South Conference Baseball Championships at AT&T Field.
The Tigers, who upset third-seeded West Florida in Thursday's opener, now advance to face No. 5 Valdosta State in Saturday's winner's bracket final. Valdosta State upset top-seeded Delta State 6-5 in 10 innings on Friday.
Joccoby Robinson tied the game at 3 with a two-run double in the seventh, then a Blake McLemore throwing error allowed West Alabama to take the lead.
Rundles has been West Alabama's head coach for nearly 14 years, taking over the Tigers after a successful 13-year stint as head coach at Carson-Newman. Rundles' started his coaching career in 1977 at Chattanooga Central, where he led the Pounders to a TSSAA state championship in the early 80's.
Friday's action at AT&T Field also featured a shocking early exit by No. 2 seed Alabama Huntsville, who was eliminated with a 4-1 loss to West Florida in the first game of the day.
