Chase Burke set the tone early in Ringgold's playoff opener with visiting Jackson County, and the Tigers never let up.

Burke hit a grand slam in the first inning of game one to fuel a doubleheader sweep that propelled Ringgold into the second round of the Class AAA state tournament. The Tigers beat Jackson County 11-1 in five innings in game one, then completed the sweep with a 5-2 victory in the nightcap.

Ringgold advances to face top-ranked Blessed Trinity next week.

Ethan Dalton followed Burke's grand slam with an RBI-single for a five-run first innings, and the Tigers matched it with five more in the second frame for a 10-0 lead.

Slade Dale and Chandler Gray each delivered run-scoring hits before in the second before Brandon Dycus crushed a bases-loaded double off the base of the wall in right to score three more runs.

Burke finished the day with six RBI, driving in two in the second game on a sacrifice fly and a solo home run.

Austin Parrish went the distance on the mound to pick up the win in the five-innning opener, while Logan Baldwin won the nightcap.

Liam Henry kept Northwest Whitfield in check in game one, but the Bruins battled back in game two to stay alive with a doubleheader split against Grady in the opening round of the Class AAAA state tournament.

Northwest Whitfield lost the opener 3-1, but answered with an 11-8 win in the nightcap to force a deciding game three at 5 p.m ET Saturday (weather permitting).

Henry used his unique submarine delivery and array of off-speed pitches to keep the Bruins off-balance in the opener. He went the distance to get the win, allowing only one run on Edwin Hernandez's infield single in the third.

The Gray Knights already owned a 2-0 lead at that point on a sacrifice fly in the second and Luke Leonard's RBI-double in the third.
