CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- We are moving into a problem-filled weekend!  Steady and heavy rains will plague the Tennessee Valley.

UPDATE SATURDAY, MAY 4, 8:00 A.M.

The latest VIPIRCAST is still calling for 3-6" of rain across the Tennessee Valley through Sunday evening. Locally heavier amounts around 7" are possible.

Rain will become more widespread through the day Saturday and remain steady through most of the weekend.

Flooding is likely, especially near creeks, streams, and small rivers. If you live in a flood-prone area be prepared to move to higher ground and look for updates on Flood Warnings for your area. Please do not attempt to drive through high water.

Flood Watches go into effect this morning.

UPDATE: 10:00 P.M.

The latest VIPIRCAST is now calling for 3-7" of rain across the Tennessee Valley, with the average being 4-5 inches.

The rain will start in earnest Saturday morning and continue through Sunday morning.

There will be some breaks in the rain by Sunday afternoon and showers will continue into Monday.

Flooding will be likely in many places.

Residents in flood prone areas should be ready to move to higher ground when flood warnings are issued this weekend.

UPDATE: 5:30 P.M.

Moisture will be converging right over us and that should lead to very heavy rainfall totals.  Since we had so much rain last weekend the soil will not be able to accept that much water.

This will lead to rapid runoff and that will cause flooding problems quickly on Saturday, Saturday night and Sunday. If you live in a flood prone area keep special attention to the updates on flooding creeks and streams in your area.

I am very sure there will be many warnings on this.  The good news is that pollen rates will be lower and the threat of strong winds, hail and tornadoes will be very small. The temperatures over the weekend will not rise out of the 60s.

Next week the chance for rain will be much smaller and we should be seeing the highs get back into the 80s by the end of the week.

For Saturday:

8am... Rain, 56

Noon... Rain, 57

5pm...Rain, 61

Hold on. The heat and humidity are going to continue through the weekend. Today, look for a high of 95 and a heat index near 100. We won't see the same coverage of storms that we saw last night, but with this much heat and humidity in place you never want to completely rule out one or two storms breaking through.More
