BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WRCB) -- Spencer Arroyo pitched seven shutout innings and the Birmingham offense did just enough to secure a 2-0 win over visiting Chattanooga in the opener of a five-game Southern League series at Regions Park Wednesday night.
The Lookouts (11-15) mustered just three hits against Arroyo, who also struck out three while improving to 2-1 on the year. Kevin Vance pitched two perfect innings of relief with four strikeouts to close out the win.
Dan Black's RBI-single in the first and Trayce Thompson's sacrifice fly in the third provided the lone tallies of the game, both came off Lookouts' starter Zach Lee.
Both runs were earned against Lee (2-2), who gave up seven hits and a walk while striking out just two in five-plus innings.
The two teams will play game two of the series at 8:05 p.m. ET Thursday night.
