HAMILTON COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -- Tim Gobble has been appointed interim corrections chief at the Hamilton County Jail.

The position will be left vacant by Ron Parson who will be demoted to captain's rank on or before May 1 after an internal affairs investigation released Wednesday reported he made numerous offensive comments to officers, according to our news partner the Times Free Press.

Sheriff Jim Hammond made the announcement Wednesday. Gobble takes the position as a salary-only position while the department searches for a long-term, full-time chief or administrator.

"Tim Gobble has been here before. He assumed that same position after the death of Deputy Chief Richard Shockley in 2010. He knows our jail, he understands our philosophy, and his qualifications as a U. S. Secret Service agent and past sheriff of Bradley County, not to mention his people skills, is what we need right now," said Hammond.

Gobble resigned from his post as East Ridge's chief executive in February, about replacing Deputy Chief of Corrections Ron Parson. Prior to that, Gobble served as sheriff in Bradley County.

Hammond says, right now, they need an interim jail administrator to fill the gap while they search for a candidate.

He added that a great deal of expertise is needed anda multitude of responsibilities required to operate ajail with a daily average of 500 inmates and a staff of about 150.

The sheriff said Gobble would also have the opportunity to submit his application for the full-time position being advertised.
