The University of Georgia football team received a huge pick-up on the recruiting trail Friday afternoon when five-star running back Sony Michel pledged to sign with the Bulldogs in 2014.
The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native is ranked as the No. 2 running back in the country according to 247Sports.com's composite rankings (which averages the rankings of four major recruiting sites).
Michel's other finalists were listed as Miami, Florida State, Florida and Notre Dame.
The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder is the fifth commitment in Georgia's 2014 class, and the second ESPN150 player to commit to UGA this week. Charlotte tight end Jeb Blazevich committed to the Bulldogs Wednesday.
Mark Richt celebrated the news on his Twitter page shortly after Michel's nationally-televised 4:30 p.m. ET announcement. While he didn't identify Michel by name (per NCAA rules), it was pretty clear why the veteran coach was so excited.
"What a great week!!! Go Dawgs!!!" he typed.
Michel told ESPNU current Georgia running backs Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall, both highly-touted recruits in UGA's 2012 signing class, helped sway him to Athens.
