Hamilton E 9-1-1 failure not due to Verizon outage

CHATTANOOGA, TN (AP) -- Hamilton County's Emergency Communications District says a cell phone outage that prevented some residents from making E 9-1-1 calls was not due to a malfunctioning Verizon tower.

According to the agency, the first report of failed calls came on Wednesday from a Verizon customer. Subsequent testing confirmed Verizon E9-1-1 call failures from multiple locations in Hamilton County, and the agency sent out a news release about the problem.

Since then it has been determined the failures included other wireless providers as well.

The Tennessee Emergency Communications Board is still investigating and has not identified the cause of the failure.
