CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- The State of the Air report from the American Lung Association was released Wednesday  morning.  This report breaks down the air quality by county.

Hamilton County received an "F".  

The highest grade in Tennessee is a "B" for Rutherford County.

The grade is calculated by using the Air Quality Index (AQI). The AQI is a color-coded scale that the Environmental Protection Agency developed to help the public understand daily air pollution forecasts and protect themselves

Infants, the elderly and people with breathing disorders like asthma are most at risk for complications. people who work or exercise outdoors can also be affected.

The risks of exposure to too much pollution can range from difficulty breathing to heart disease.
