DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. (UTC) -- Steven Fox and the Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team have the lead with 18 holes to play at the Southern Conference Championship on Ralston Creek Course.
UTC fired the low round of the day with a two-over par 290 lead by Fox and Liam Johnston.
Chattanooga's 290 was one better than College of Charleston's 291 for Monday's rounds. The Mocs (588) lead first 18 leader Davidson (291) by three, while CofC stands in third at 600, 12 strokes off the pace. Fox's minus one total of 143 is two clear of Todd Eckstein (Davidson) and Josh Lorenzetti (CofC).
Fox and Johnston each turned in one-under par 71's, but they did so in very different fashion. Fox posted six birdies and eight pars to offset three bogeys and a double. Johnston had an eagle, birdie and 14 pars with just two bogeys.
Davis Bunn almost matched the duo stroke-for-stroke. He ended up at level-par 72. He is tied for eighth at plus five (149). He is a shot ahead of Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) who is tied for 10th at 150 after a 76 this afternoon. Johnston is another stroke back, tied for 15th at 151. Benni Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) rounds out the scores at 152, tied for 23rd.
The final round starts Tuesday at 9:50 a.m., for the Mocs. Paired with Davidson and College of Charleston, Weilguni gets his squad started followed by Johnston (10:00), Robb (10:10), Bunn (10:20) and Fox (10:30).
