CHEROKEE COUNTY, NC (WRCB) -- Cherokee County sheriff's deputies arrested two men for allegedly impersonating law enforcement officers.

Sheriff's officials say a citizen called police when two men, identified as Dustin Lee Adams of Murphy and Brandon Patrick Trantham of Ducktown, allegedly tried to steal a four wheeler.

When the owner approached them, they claimed to be North Carolina Wildlife Officers and attempted to leave, according to deputies.

Neighbors and the complainant detained the two until deputies arrived.

Adams and Trantham were charged with Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer, Communicating Threats, Simple Assault, Attempted Larceny, and Larceny of  Motor Vehicle.

Adams was charged with impersonating an officer in 2007 for allegedly using a blue light to stop drivers.
