AARP accepting nominations for outstanding volunteers

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, TN (WRCB) -- In honor of National Volunteer Week, AARP is accepting nominations of Tennesseeans who do outstanding volunteer work.

The winner will receive $2,500 for the charity of their choice.

Nominations are open until June 1 for any Tennessean age 50 or older. You do not need to be an AARP member to win.

The winner will be chosen by AARP Tennessee volunteer leaders. They'll be considered on the basis of positive impact and inspiration for others to volunteer as well as the level of improvement for their communities.

The award recipient will be announced on or around September 1.

The award honors AARP founder Ethel Percy Andrus, whose motto "to serve, not to be served."
