Several businesses cited during alcohol compliance checks

Posted: Updated:

HAMILTON COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -- Several Hamilton County businesses were cited for selling alcohol to minors.

Hamilton County Sheriff's deputies conducted 36 alcohol compliance checks at area businesses.

Underage buyers were sent into the businesses to try and buy alcohol. Thirty of the businesses refused to sell alcohol while six sold them alcohol.

The businesses cited were the Kangaroo Express on Mahan Gap Road, Park Grocery on Harrison Bay Road, Highway 58 Mart on Highway 58, Spur Market on Middle Valley Road, Friend's on Hixson Pike and Couch's on Dayton Pike.

Current research shows that effective compliance checks helps decrease alcohol sales to minors; helps reduce underage drinking which in turn reduces alcohol related traffic crashes, violence, and other health problems associated with alcohol.
