Signal Mountain Blvd to be closed for bridge demolition next week

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- Next week will pose some navigation challenges for motorists in northern Chattanooga, as TDOT contract crews will close a portion of Signal Mountain Boulevard located near the Dayton Boulevard intersection starting the evening of Monday, April 22 through Wednesday, April 24.

The work will occur between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. to demolish the bridge on the existing northbound exit ramp to Signal Mountain Boulevard, which passes over the roadway.

The bridge will be demolished in pieces, and the roadway beneath will be protected with mats during this work.  Once the bridge is removed, the contractor will set portable barrier rail to close the inside lanes to allow for construction of the foundations for a new bridge.

Detours will be marked during the demolition phase and afterwards. The demolition may be delayed by weather.
