City of Niota shuts down because of no insurance

Posted: Updated:

NIOTA, MCMINN CO., TN (WRCB) - The city of Niota in McMinn County is shut down.

That means no police, city fire department, trash pickup and public works. The city park, playground and basketball court are also closed.

The closing is due to the city not having any liability insurance.

Commissioners made the decision last night at an emergency called meeting because the Athens insurance agent was unable to secure liability insurance for the city.

We'll bring you more information on this developing story as soon as it's available.
