CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Rob Rasmussen settled down after a rough first inning and Blake Smith delivered three hits to lead Chattanooga to a 5-3 win over Birmingham in game four of a five-game Southern League series Thursday night at AT&T Field.
Rasmussen (1-2) the Lookouts an early hole when he surrendered a three-run first-inning home run to Dan Black, but the left-hander found his groove and pitched through the sixth without giving up another run. He allowed five hits and walked one while striking out seven to pick up his first win of the year.
Yasiel Puig offered a quick rebuttal to Black's home with a two-run shot of his own in the bottom of the first. The shot to left was the highly-touted prospect's first homer of the year, but his only hit of the night.
Omar Luna's RBI-single pulled the Lookouts even at 3-all in the fourth, then Smith's RBI-double gave them the lead in the sixth. Smith finished 3-for-4 on the night with two doubles and a run scored.
C.J. Retherford added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Rob Acosta pitched two scoreless innings of relief and Yimi Garcia closed out the ninth for his third save.
The two teams wrap up the series at 7:15 p.m. ET Friday night.
