WHITFIELD COUNTY, GA. (WRCB) – A police chase down I-75 leads to a meth bust in Whitfield County.

It happened Wednesday around 9:45 a.m.

Sheriff Scott Chitwood says a deputy clocked a gray Honda Accord at 85 mph and attempted to stop it.

The driver sped away, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph.

Sheriff Chitwood says the driver began throwing paper-like items out of the window, before running off the interstate at W. Nance Springs Road and hitting a tree.

The driver, 34-year-old James Mears, and passenger, 37-year-old Christopher Coleman, were arrested after a brief foot chase.

Chitwood says a shake n' bake meth lab was found in the car, which was reported stolen out of East Ridge.

Both are being held for violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act and for bringing stolen property into the State of Georgia.

Mears is also charged with numerous traffic violations.
