7 juveniles arrested in connection with numerous thefts, vandalisms

MCMINN COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -- A handful of minors were busted April 13 in connection with a juvenile crime ring in McMinn County.

Sheriff's deputies say four juveniles were arrested Saturday when they tried to break into the Jiffy Market on Highway 39.

The arresting deputies contacted detectives, suspicious that the teens might be involved in other crimes.

"Based upon the evidence, as well as from the interviews, a total number of 7 juvenile suspects were identified," said Sheriff Guy.

Investigations led to solving numerous vandalisms and thefts in the area including three incidents  at the Englewood Jiffy, the Quick Stop Market in Etowah, baseball and softball press boxes and concessions stands at Central High School, Bob's Discount on Hwy 39 east, Goodsprings House of Prayer on County Road 660, vandalisms to vehicles in County Roads 660 and 632, vandalism to at County road 435 and Hwy 39 east, and mailboxes destroyed on County roads 609, 461, and 508.

"This was great work and cooperation by all the officers involved," said Sheriff Guy. "But the key was Officer Purkey's initial arrest and extra efforts to look further into the situation."

The juveniles were released into the custody of parents and will likely appear in Juvenile Court April 22.
