Central outlasts Red Bank in 10 innings

Central 6, Red Bank 4 (10 innings)
RED BANK, Tenn. (WRCB) --
Colton Morgan pitched another gem and Central scored two runs in the top of the tenth to secure a 6-4 road win at Red Bank Monday night to keep pace with East Hamilton in the District 6-AA standings.

With the win, the Purple Pounders (19-5) improved to 9-0 in district play, but still trail the unbeaten Hurricanes (18-7, 11-0) in the win column. The loss dropped third-place Red Bank to 5-4 in league play.

Morgan and Hagan Wilkey battled in a pitcher's duel that remained scoreless until the fourth inning.

Central's Ryan Poole started the scoring with a two-run double to center, but Red Bank answered with a Tyler Phillips RBI single in the bottom half of the inning before tying the game when Gage Winton scored on a wild pitch.

The two teams traded two runs over the next three innings to force extra frames, with Central finally pulling ahead in the tenth.

The two teams will play again at Central Tuesday evening.

East Ridge 11, Signal Mountain 0 (softball)
Ashley Irvin tossed a no-hitter and Tot Najueelah drove in five runs to lead East Ridge to an 11-0 rout of visiting Signal Mountain in the Lady Pioneers' pink game to raise awareness for breast cancer research.

Irvin struck out seven in her second no-hitter in as many weeks. The Pioneers' ace tossed a no-hitter in a 14-0 win over Tyner two weeks ago. Irvin also had two hits and drove in two runs at the plate.

Najueelah took care of most of the offense, doing most of her damage on a three-run home run.

The game raised $800 for the Mary Ellen Locher Foundation.
