Distillery bill passes in Tennessee House

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- In Nashville, the distillery has passed the House, but not before one last dose of political posturing and heated debate.

The measure that would allow distilleries in Hamilton County was delayed last week.

Monday night, Chattanooga Whiskey supporters watched House members go back and forth for nearly an hour.

Chattanooga Representative Richard Floyd, who from the beginning said he would not support the measure, called on his religious beliefs in trying to sway members to adopt one of his amendments.

"I can only appeal to your conscience," Floyd said. "We'll never answer to any man/woman on this floor or in your districts for your votes. One day we're gonna answer to God for every vote we make."

The bill passed 57-31 with one amendment.

It goes back to the Senate for approval before heading to the governor.
