Freedom Jubilee celebrates Emancipation Proclamation anniversary

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- Saturday, local civil leaders gathered to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation at the Freedom Jubilee.

The group gathered at Soldiers and Sailors Auditorium recognizing the rich history of civil rights in Chattanooga

The focus of Saturday's program was on youth and the future.

The Reverend Samuel Jackson helped put the program together and says it's always important to grow the city for future generations.

"We need to let our young people know of the richness of Chattanooga's history. Hopefully to instill some pride and allow them to see change can take place but it will require something on their part."

There were several figures among the crowd who were instrumental in the civil rights movement for the city.
