CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- Unless you are an allergy sufferer, you will love the warm, outdoor weather today.
I noticed the Hosta has come up in the garden, and the Knockouts are looking great in my garden yesterday, but all that growth also signals lots of pollen in the air.
The main culprit is tree pollen. The counts have been in the 3000s (anything above 120 is extremely heavy), and there is nothing in today's forecast that indicate those numbers will fall.
Highs today will be in the mid 80s, well above the normal high of 71. We will have partly cloudy skies.
The warm air is Step 1 of an approaching weather system.
When a front approaches, we typically have south winds ahead of the front bringing in the warm air.
Step 2 is the passage of the front which will bring showers and strong storms. That will take place tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow evening. There is a slight risk of severe storms Thursday afternoon with the biggest threat being from damaging winds and small hail.
Step 3 is what we look forward to. Behind the front, winds shift, and blow from the north, usually bringing in cooler and drier air. That will be the case Friday into the weekend as we see highs drop back into the 60s and 70s, and skies clear giving us a picture perfect weekend.
