Polk Co. emergency responders battle structure fire

Posted: Updated:

TURTLETOWN, TN (WRCB) -- Polk County emergency responders worked a structure fire in the 400 block of Highway 123 in Turtletown.

Dispatchers say the building was an abandoned garage. The fire was under control by 10:30 p.m.

Fire Chief Mike Worley tells Channel 3 when crews arrived on the scene the building was completely engulfed in flames.

Though the garage had been closed for about a year, equipment and supplies were still housed inside.

After the fire was extinguished firefighters began checking for hot spots.  At that time a small explosion occurred sending two firefighters to the hospital.  They were treated and released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
