Senior transport van struck, sending 12 to hospital

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- A morning accident involving a transport van for Serenity Adult Daycenter sent 12 seniors to the hospital Monday morning.

The accident, at Standifer Gap and Hickory Valley Road, also created some traffic delays as emergency responders attended to the accident victims.

Officials tell Channel 3 that a work van ran a red light and struck the transport van.

The transport van ended up on its side, forcing emergency workers to remove the front windshield and cut open the roof of the van to extricate the passengers.

Six trucks were used to transport the patients to to Erlanger for treatment and examination as a precaution. No life-threatening injuries were reported.
