CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Roy Grimes knows he is among the fortunate few, 1 of only 17 Americans pardoned by President Barack Obama.

The 72-year-old mechanical engineer from Athens, Tenn., isn't sure why he got the presidential pardon in March. His attorney says they may never know.

Grimes has gotten married, earned a degree and worked since he helped alter a money order to steal $40.83 from the East Ridge post office in 1960. But as a felon, he lost his right to vote or own a gun.

Grimes told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that for years he's wanted a single-action Colt peacemaker, the type cowboys like Clint Eastwood and Chuck Connors carried in his favorite TV Westerns.

The pardon is a step toward making that wish come true.

Hold on. The heat and humidity are going to continue through the weekend. Today, look for a high of 95 and a heat index near 100. We won't see the same coverage of storms that we saw last night, but with this much heat and humidity in place you never want to completely rule out one or two storms breaking through.More
