Pet Day at museum teaches children, adults how to be better pet parents

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- Saturday, pet owners from around the area got a chance to visit the Discovery Museum along with a furry friend.

It was pet day at the Discovery Museum Downtown.

The event was held to teach parents and children how to be better owners.

There was a vet on hand to help families understand how to make healthy snacks and diagnose their animal if they suspect a problem, but that's not all veterinarians hoped children learned.

"Pets are often kids' first responsibility, [they] understand and learn their own health care issues too," says Tracy Dewhirst.

Saturday's event also included x-rays for children to try and find an object inside an animal- that wasn't supposed to be there.

They were shown how to use tools, and given a look into the skeletal system of different animals
