Car speeds past bus warning signs and hits pedestrian

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- A 17-year-old was struck by a car this morning as he waited for a school bus.

The victim was at the bus stop at the corner of Metro Drive and Norcross Road.

The school bus, which was stopped and had its warning lights and traffic signals on, was passed by a first vehicle that also sped past the victim.

The victim was then struck by a second vehicle that did not stop for the bus warning lights as he crossed the roadway to prepared to board the bus.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian has been identified as Stephen Stewart, 36, and has been cited for stop sign violation. The driver of first vehicle has not yet been located.
Chattanooga police say the victim was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
