Channel 3 Weekend TODAY Anchor Jonquil Newland and Meteorologist Nick Austin.
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – Channel 3 Eyewitness News will expand its top-rated weekend morning newscast by an additional hour, starting Saturday, February 15.
Eyewitness News: Weekend TODAY will air from 6:00-8:00 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays followed by NBC's TODAY Show. The TODAY Show on NBC will air 8:00-10:00 a.m. on Saturdays and 8:00-9:00 a.m. on Sundays. Following its local morning newscast, WRCB will offer live news and weather updates during NBC's TODAY Show as well. That will create a 4-hour news block on Saturdays and a 3-hour block on Sundays.
"Viewers have responded well to local morning news on the weekend since we launched nearly a year ago and we are happy to expand that service," said WRCB News Director Derrall Stalvey.
"The weekend morning team has consistently been #1 in the Nielsen ratings; the additional hour will give us more time to add more content that helps viewers plan their weekend."
Jonquil Newland, a member of the WRCB team since 2011, anchors the newscast. Meteorologist Nick Austin provides the weekend weather forecast. Austin has been a member of the WRCB family since 2010. Newland and Austin previously worked together at WBBJ-TV in Jackson, Tennessee.
"With the addition of these newscasts, WRCB will broadcast more than 34 hours of local programming per week," said WRCB President & General Manager Tom Tolar.
"The company has always been committed to viewers in the Tennessee Valley. This expansion is just the latest example of our service to our community."
WRCB produces more local news and programming than any other television station. The television station added additional positions and promoted from within in order to deliver the weekend morning news.
Channel 3 began broadcasting in Chattanooga on May 6, 1956. The station is owned by Sarkes Tarzian, Inc. based in Bloomington, Indiana. Sarkes Tarzian, Inc. also owns and operates KTVN-TV in Reno, Nevada; WAJI-FM and WLDE-FM in Fort Wayne, Indiana; WGCL-AM and WTTS-FM in Bloomington.
