UPDATE: Police arrest alleged burglar with lengthy record

Posted: Updated:

EAST RIDGE, TN (WRCB) -- An alleged burglar, with a lengthy criminal past, is behind bars Monday night.

Police say 25-year-old Corey Harvey was found at the Brainerd Road Amigo's and arrested without incident.

Residents on Cedar Glen Circle say they immediately recognized Harvey as the man snooping around their neighbor's home earlier Monday.

"He went to my neighbor's house and checked the front door," says the man who lives across the street. "I was wondering why and I just watched him. He gave a quick look back and hopped the fence."

Police say Harvey broke into the back door and took about $200 from the house.

His neighbor, who asked us not to identify him, chased Harvey back to his parents home. They live four doors down.

"I ran up the street to try to cut him off from where I thought he was heading," he tells Channel 3. "He kind of doubled back, ran in his yard and his mom let him in."

East Ridge Police Patrol and SWAT Divisions were dispatched to the scene. They tracked Harvey through the woods but were unable to locate him.

"We were able to track him for what they estimated was about a two-mile loop," explains Corporal Robert Wade.

That's where the trail ended.

Police say it's not the first time Harvey has broken into a home or run from authorities.

Hamilton County court records show Harvey has a criminal record that dates back to 2007. It includes multiple theft and burglary charges.

He's currently on probation in Hamilton County, after pleading guilty to multiple counts of facilitation of aggravated burglary.

He has also faced charges across the state line in Catoosa County.

"I don't have a clue right now," said Harvey's father when Channel 3 visited the family's home and asked if relatives knew where Harvey was.

Harvey's father says police and neighbors are out to get his son, but they say it's for good reason. They're fed up.

"He'll come home and they'll get him," says Harvey's neighbor. "It's just a matter of time, but once they do get him he needs to stay in jail."
