CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - A local angler is partnering up with the Goodwill Assistance Dog Academy to put on the first annual Crappie for Canines Benefit Tournament on Sunday April, 14th at Harrison Bay State Park on Chickamauga Lake from 8am-1pm.

The tournament is being organized by avid crappie angler and GADA volunteer Candi Burrows.

"All proceeds raised will go to benefit the Goodwill Assistance Dog Academy of Chattanooga organization" says Burrows

The Goodwill Assistance Dog Academy is a program that provides animal therapy and trained mobility service dogs for children and adults with physical disabilities. Each service dog receives two years of training, learns over 90 commands, and performs skills such as opening and closing doors, turning on and off lights, and retrieving dropped or needed items. Every assistance dog is given away at no cost and includes lifelong behavioral and instructional support for each team.

"I begin volunteering for GADA more than two years ago," Burrows said. "Last year, we graduated three dogs from the program, and to witness firsthand the difference these dogs make in someone's life is amazing."

The tournament will be a catch and release event where anglers will weigh in their best five crappie.

The entry fee into the event will be $30 per boat. (Two anglers will be allowed per boat and children under to age of 10 are welcome to fish without counting as more than two anglers in the boat.)

Registrations will begin at 7am at Harrison Bay State Park boat ramp the morning of the tournament.

Prizes for the Tournament will be:
1st place - $200
2nd place - Tow Boat U.S. membership and prize package (tote bag, T-shirt and hat) donated by Shane and Stacey O'Neal from TowBoat U.S. - Chickamauga Lake.
3rd place - Mr. Crappie rod, reel and baby shad lures donated by Soddy Custom Tackle.

Anglers who make an extra donation to GADA will be eligible to win a $100 gift card that will be given out to the angler catching the biggest crappie in the event.

Chattanooga Goodwill Industries Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and donations are tax-deductible.
