OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Walker Valley handed Ooltewah its first District 5-AAA loss on Tuesday night.
24 hours later, the Owls returned the favor.
Drew Williams hit a grand slam to back Jackson McClain's complete game on the mound in Ooltewah's 9-3 rout of the visiting Mustangs that pulled the two teams back into a first-place tie atop the district standings.
McClain surrendered three runs in the opening frame, but settled in and found his groove to allow just three baserunners over the final six innings. The Yale University baseball signee retired the final ten batters he faced and tallied a career-high 14 strikeouts.
The Owls (10-4, 5-1) answered the Mustangs' fast start with one of their own, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first. Williams' grand slam off the left-field foul pole was sandwiched between a bases-loaded walk and a run-scoring error to put Ooltewah ahead to stay.
Kevin Dupree added a two-run double and Williams closed his day with an RBI-single as Ooltewah tacked on three more runs in the sixth to close out the win.
