Search amplifies for missing man

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB)  --  Clio Avenue looked more like a crime scene Wednesday. The 3400 block was covered with squad cars.

"All of the sudden they just kept coming and coming and coming," resident Richard Klamert says.

However, instead of a suspect, officers searched for Kelly Dobbs, 43, who suffers from medical and mental conditions.

His sister, Ruth Espy, called police when he didn't come home from his daily walk Tuesday.

"He had on a brown shirt, a pocket T-shirt, black jacket that snapped down the front, blue jeans and a toboggan," Espy says.

She says Dobbs walks to a duck pond across the state line every day. He left on that walk around 3 p.m. Tuesday and hasn't been seen since.

"We've been here for 18 years, and everyday he walks up there and back," Espy says. "This is the first time he's ever been out like this and didn't come back."

No stone is being left unturned in the search. A bus load of police cadets went door to door at businesses on Rossville Boulevard as officers searched the area on foot and in patrol cars. The freezing temperatures are one of their biggest concerns.

"I just hope they find him and he gets the help he needs," Klamert says.

"He's a big guy, anybody could see him. He's not one to hide in a crowd, he'd stand out," says Espy.

Officials with the police department tell Channel 3 the search will continue until all leads are exhausted. If you can help locate Dobbs please contact the Chattanooga Police Department.
