CHEROKEE COUNTY, NC (WRCB) -- A fugitive from Georgia is now behind bars thanks to the work of numerous law enforcement agencies.

43-year-old Robert Gene Laster of Alabama was captured in Murphy after a year on the run.

Officials say Laster was wanted on burglary, theft, distribution of methamphetamine, obstruction of justice, possession of firearm by convicted felon, and other violent offenses.

Laster was spotted on Hill Street near Conaheeta Park.

He fled the area, and following a brief foot chase, deputies captured him.

Agencies involved included the Murphy Police Department, United States Marshal's Fugitive Apprehension Unit, and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
