FBI Probes Facebook child porn

Posted: Updated:

TAMPA (WFLA) -- A pornographic video involving a child that surfaced on Facebook pages of Tampa Bay users is under investigation by the FBI, which has been trying to track down the person responsible for years.

The video, which appears to show an adult male molesting a very young girl, showed up on Facebook pages and a screen shot appeared on Twitter.

The images were circulating among Hillsborough county teenagers on the social media sites, said Lisa Newman, whose 16-year-old son alerted her to the issue.

"How in the world did this get on Facebook to where my 16-year-old son could access it?" Newman said.  Newman said she immediately notified local law enforcement.

But it appears federal investigators have been looking into this video for years.  The FBI first came across it in 2005 and opened a case, said FBI Special Agent Dave Couvertier.

"The only thing is we don't know who he is, we don't know who this victim child is, this little toddler here, and we don't know where he's located," Couvertier said.
