UPDATE: Cause of 1 of 2 morning fires identified

HAMILTON CO., TN (WRCB) - Firefighters were kept busy with two fires Wednesday morning.

The first happened around 3:00 a.m. in the 600 block of Nye Circle. Firefighters responded to a chimney fire. No injuries were reported and the homeowner was able to extinguish the fire.

The second also happened around 3:00 a.m. This time on Morrison Springs Road at the Bluff View Apartments. Residents told investigators they believe it started in the wall of one unit.

The smoke alarm woke up one resident and they saw flames in the ductwork.

911 was called and residents were evacuated from nearby units.

Four units were affected displacing 5 families.

No injuries were reported, but one cat did not make it out.

Officials say the cause of the fire and was likely caused by an electrical malfunction.
