Weekend washout?

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- While we will see rain this weekend, it may not be the washout we were fearing.

The latest model runs are showing a good portion of the rain being forecast will stay to our south.   With that said, I would expect some light on and off showers through this afternoon, and even some widespread periods of heavy rain overnight into early Saturday morning.

Through most of Saturday you will be dealing with clouds, but only some isolated pop up showers here and there.

Saturday night, however, more heavy rain is likely overnight into Sunday morning.

Then, again, we will reduce that to isolated showers on and off through the rest of Sunday.

That on and off pattern will last into Monday morning when we may even see that transitioning into a few snow flurries Monday morning.

Some showers and storms may redevelop today as a cold front passes through the Tennessee Valley. But don't worry too much, they aren't expected to be widespread or become severe.

Several things are coming together to increase our chances for some severe weather later today.  A warm, humid air mass will interact with unseasonably cool air that will be pushing through today and tomorrow.

We will continue a warm, muggy pattern with highs reaching about 90 degrees.  The heat and humidity will combine with a trough of low pressure to produce one or two thunderstorms.
