CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- I could have sworn spring started yesterday.
You would never know it by looking at today's weather. After lows in the 20s, we will only warm to 47 this afternoon, well below the normal high of 65. We will also have 10-15 mph winds which will add a bite to the air.
With that said, NOAA released their spring forecast which is calling for Tennessee to have above normal temps this spring with normal levels of precipitation. Those "above normal temps" will have to wait at least a week to get started as we will be 5-10 degrees BELOW normal through next Thursday.
NOAA's complete report can be found here, along with maps.
Tonight, expect clouds to build as an area of low pressure approaches. It could bring a light wintry mix to the area Friday morning, but with temps above freezing most (if not all) of the day, ice and accumulation won't be an issue.
The biggest issue Friday through the weekend will be rain. We will have 2 periods of heavy rain this weekend. One Friday night into Saturday morning, and another Saturday sight into Sunday morning. Both of those time slots could produce 1"-1 1/2" of rain each so getting over 3" of rain in total this weekend is not a stretch at all.
Time wise, this is the way your weekend will shape up...
Friday morning... 30s, light rain/snow mix.
Friday afternoon... upper 40s/low 50s, light rain showers
Friday night into Saturday morning... 40s, heavy rain, over 1" likely
Through the day Saturday... 50s, overcast, on and off showers
Saturday night into Sunday morning... low 50s, heavy rain, over 1" likely
Sunday... near 60, overcast, isolated showers
