CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – Stephanie Rieck drove in all five runs, including the game-winner on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the eighth to lead Chattanooga softball to a 5-4 non-conference home win over Murray State Wednesday afternoon at Frost Stadium.
Rieck was unstoppable in the extra-inning affair, also launching a three-run home run in the sixth for her first career homer. The junior outfielder added an RBI double in the fourth for UTC's first run.
"We challenged her," said head coach Frank Reed. "She knocked the cover off the ball last year when we gave her a chance, but she just wasn't getting it done this season. I challenged her after the loss to Furman Sunday and she really responded today. She looked today like she did last season.
"Let's hope she keeps that up."
The Lady Mocs (16-14, 1-2 SoCon) also got two hits and two runs scored from Tyler Templet to back Tyler Deason's six-inning effort in the circle. Deason allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts before giving way to Rachel Albritton in the seventh.
Albritton (4-2) struck out three in two scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Chattanooga returns to Southern Conference play this weekend with a home series against Appalachian State. The Lady Mocs and Mountaineers meet Saturday for a double header, beginning at 1 p.m. ET before wrapping up the series Sunday at 4 p.m. ET at Frost Stadium.
