Cooler weather settling in

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) --  Aren't we supposed to warm up during spring?

In the wake of the front that brought the strong storms to the area yesterday, we will have north breezes from 10-15 mph bringing in cooler and drier air through the rest of the week.

Highs today will reach the low 60s under mostly sunny skies, but tomorrow (the first day of spring) we will see lows in the mid 30s and highs in the upper 50s.

It gets even cooler Thursday as lows drop into the upper 20s Thursday morning and only reach the low 50s Thursday afternoon.

A front approaching Friday could bring an isolated shower or two late Friday, but a better chance of rain exists Saturday.

If you have plans outdoors this weekend, have either a rain date set or an indoor alternative.   I am expecting rain throughout the day Saturday and even into at least Sunday morning.

We may also see a few thunderstorms as well.

The rain will taper off Sunday afternoon into Monday.

Several things are coming together to increase our chances for some severe weather later today.  A warm, humid air mass will interact with unseasonably cool air that will be pushing through today and tomorrow.

We will continue a warm, muggy pattern with highs reaching about 90 degrees.  The heat and humidity will combine with a trough of low pressure to produce one or two thunderstorms.

Expect dense fog as you head out this morning.  A fog advisory is in effect until 10am. We saw about 2" of rain at the Chattanooga airport over the weekend, bringing our annual surplus to about 13" above normal.
