Tennessee labor commissioner abruptly resigns

NASHVILLE, TN (Times Free Press) — Gov. Bill Haslam today announced state Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Karla Davis has resigned "due to family reasons."

She's the second of Haslam's commissioners to resign this year.

Davis has come under criticism from several former top department employees.

But in his statement, Haslam made no mention of that, and simply said the department has implemented "several key initiatives" under Davis, including a comprehensive online data jobs database. The governor said he is "grateful" to Davis for her service. Burns Phillips has been tapped as acting commissioner.
