CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- It's that time of year: prom season, and while many young girls are running out to get the best dress, some local organizations are making sure to promote an important message as well.

Rescue Prom and the Hamilton County Health Department teamed up for an event to promote awareness on HIV.

They say it's important that our youth is reminded it's still a serious issue, and try to help them better understand.

"People stigmatize HIV now, so we try to knock down whatever stigma exists still," says medical case manager Rachel Inman. 

Participants at the event were eligible to win a free prom dress.
