The Tennessee Department of Transportation is dispatching 3 of its lime yellow HELP trucks to keep traffic flowing near Bristol International Speedway for NASCAR races on Saturday and Sunday.
TDOT Commissioner John Schroer noted HELP truck drivers are trained emergency medical responders, but their more usual role is changing flat tires, providing fuel and directing traffic with lighted message boards.
TDOT has HELP truck programs in Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis and Chattanooga, but uses the trucks for special events where needed statewide.
NASCAR's Food City 500 will be run Sunday at Bristol.
