FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., March 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, March 9, Solstice Benefits, Inc.-a South Florida-based dental, vision and life insurance benefits provider-participated in the 2013 Broward Heart Walk, exceeding its $15,000 goal by raising over $26,000 for the American Heart Association. Solstice joined at least 15 other groups and organizations, and thousands of community members, to walk to fight cardiovascular disease. The condition is the No. 1 killer of men and women and the No. 2 killer of children in the United States. Participants ran or walked a 3.1 mile circuit around Nova Southeastern University's campus, an activity which in turn promoted a healthier lifestyle and got people moving for the cause.

Solstice's tent featured the always-popular "Show Us Your Solstice Smile" photo booth-capturing hundreds of silly smiles-and giveaways of toothbrushes to endorse good oral hygiene, which studies show may reduce the risk of heart disease. The company also partnered with Holy Cross Hospital by providing special "I walk for you" cards for Heart Walk participants to fill out and offer words of encouragement for cardiology patients. In addition, Solstice upped the energy by filming its own Harlem Shake video on the bleachers after taking the company photo.

"As our 2013 Heart Walk t-shirts proclaimed, 'We Walk the Walk, We Talk the Talk.' It's the truth. We feel very strongly about the fight against heart disease-and about improving the lives of those we serve," said Carlos Ferrera, Chief Operating Officer at Solstice. "I'm so very proud that Solstice not only met, but exceeded our goal for the 2013 Heart Walk. I'm humbled by the hard work and creative fundraising efforts Solstice employees showed for a cause that is so near and dear to me. I look forward to the passion we'll bring next year!"
