UPDATE: Carr Street murder case bound over to Grand Jury

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- Courtney Birt,  accused of killing 16-year old Lamunta Williams March 5, appeared in Judge Clarence Shattuck's courtroom Tuesday morning.

In a packed courtroom, juvenile witnesses shared their recollections of events the day Birt is accused of killing Lamunta Williams.

The first witness said she was with friends, and heard a shot ring out. There was a knock at the door and the suspect, Birt, walked into the house. She also said she knew Birt from the neighborhood.

The witness continued to say that Williams was in school at Howard the morning of the shooting.

The second witness said that they were at the house for about an hour, and that she tried to snatch the gun out of Birt's hand.

She said she heard three shots.

A third witness took the stand, and said he thought Birt was "tipped off" to Williams' location. After the shooting, the witness said he talked to his "favorite" teacher about it.

CPD Officer Karl Fields III testified that Birt's girlfriend admitted to being in an altercation with Williams on Valentine's day.

The case has been bound over to the Grand Jury; Birt will remain in prison.
