The Blizzard of 1993 - 20 Years Later

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- Twenty years after the infamous "Blizzard of 1993," the Channel 3 Eyewitness News team that reported the weather news that day is still at Channel 3, bringing you the news and weather.

David Carroll, Paul Barys and Cindy Sexton witnessed a historic day of snowfall in the Tennessee Valley, as many of you did.

Almost two feet of snow blanketed the area, immobilizing traffic and creating other problems, such as collapsing the roof of the Sam's Club in the old location on Lee Highway.

Interstates were shut down, snarling traffic backwards to Birmingham, Nashville and Knoxville.

It took EPB crews eight days to restore power to over 70,000 customers who lost power when the snow took down power lines and poles.
